OCD CM Technical Bulletin
Preventative maintenance of engine room instrumentation saves unneccesary service bills.
OCD CM Technical Bulletin
The OCD CM monitor has been designed and tested in accordance with IMO regulation MEPC 60(33) and if operated under the correct environmental and sample conditions should provide trouble free service, provided certain routine maintenance issues are carried out in accordance with our instructions. We reccomend the following: Cell Cleaning: The OCD CM is an optical measuring device and as such needs to be maintained in a clean condition. The unit is supplied with a brush for cleaning purposes. The cell should be cleaned before each operation, or weekly if used infrequently. After use the cell should be flushed with clean water and left with clean water in the cell. This will reduce any possibility of scale deposits from the OWS sample becoming permanently attached to the cell tube. Rivertrace Engineering can also provide Manual and Automatic cell cleaning options to make maintenance tasks easier. Manual Cleaning Device: A spring-loaded plunger with a wiper ring fitted is fixed into the cell cap aperture and cleaning of the cell is achieved by pushing the plunger down two or three times. The unit does not need to be shut down or disconnected for cleaning to take place. Automatic Cell cleaning: ALL current model OCD's can be specified to include an air actuated Automatic Cell Cleaning Device fitted at time of ordering. The cell cleaning is then automated with cleaning cycles set by the operator of between 1 and 59 minutes. To upgrade an existing unit with Autoclean the unit will need to be returned to Rivertrace for hardware and software modification. For new purchases please specify at time of order. Dessicator: The dessicator is an important item. It maintains a dry atmosphere in the cell chamber and prevents condensation forming on the outer surface of the cell tube during temperature transients, such as flushing with clean water. This condensation interferes with the light signals and can cause an error signal to be displayed. A new dessicator shows blue in the transparent window, if the window shows pink or white then the dessicator needs to be replaced at the earliest opportunity. Operating Temperatures: The sample temperature should not exceed 40 deg. C. The ambient temperature should not exceed 55 deg. C.
